Professional Experience:
I have 14 years of work experience managing international cooperation programmes and campaigns in Spain, Belgium, Morocco, Indonesia and Egypt.
I have worked for both a major donor (the European Commission) and two large international NGOs (Oxfam International and Care International) on advocacy, programme development, coordination and grant management. Through my work experience, I have developed a deep understanding of how both sides of the funding divide operate in Headquarters and in the field. I have also learnt about the challenges faced by different stakeholders working together to deliver effective international development programs in highly complex environments.
My experience in the EU Delegations to Indonesia and Egypt allowed me to develop an expertise in EC grant management and procurement procedures and policies, both from an operational and a financial/ contractual perspective. In Egypt, I managed a portfolio of civil society grants worth €8 million covering a wide range of human rights and local development issues. I was responsible for all stages of the grant management cycle, from launching calls for proposals in consultation with a all relevant stakeholders, to awarding new grants, preparing grant agreements and negotiating budgets with grantees, monitoring project implementation, approving reports and payments, managing evaluations and audits and closing out ended actions. In Indonesia, I had the opportunity to advise on financial and contractual matters on a number of bilateral programmes with the Indonesian government and ASEAN.
During my time with Oxfam and Care, I developed, managed and supported programmes working directly with local partners and/or with the organisations’ offices in Europe, Morocco and the Middle East. Negotiating and consulting with donors, partners and internal and external stakeholders in order to drive programmes forward was central to my work with these organisations.
Throughout my career, I have led a significant number of processes to encourage people with different interests to work together towards achieving a common development aim. I have always worked in international teams and have been able to establish and maintain excellent working relationships with a wide range of actors. Working in different countries and in different institutional settings has strengthened my geo-political awareness and my ability to interact effectively with colleagues and partners with very different motivations and cultural backgrounds.
Education:
I have a degree in International Relations with Development Studies from the University of Sussex and an MA degree in International Relations from the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona.
