Professional Experience:
Education industry professional with seven years' experience including two full-time at Columbia University as an admissions officer and three full-time based in Beijing as the third employee at a startup company that now employees 45 individuals. Significant management experience in leading three teams that represent over 80% of company revenue stream. Manage all aspects of the team: culture, P&L, new products, marketing, sales and development of new products. The company is considered a standard bearer for a new wave of education companies emerging in China: companies that aim to offer ethically minded premium services to Chinese as well as global clientele that seek expert advice in either studying abroad (our focus is the United States), or for those that wish to enter the Chinese market. Our company has grown over 50x from when I joined the company full-time in 2009. Prior to joining full-time I served as a consultant since the founding of the company. My collective experience in education management has given me a broad skill-set: marketing effectively to a diverse and global audience; developing and implementing unique education products that try to push at the edge of the Chinese market in order to both make an impact on the market and provide a unique product for entry; relationship building with both foreign and Chinese local partners in order to sustainably build the organization; establishment of protocols and policies in order to achieve a healthy working culture. These skills I believe are transferable to a host of industries and organizations. Although I am open to a host of opportunities, I believe I am especially suited (given my multilingual and multicultural background) for work at international organizations or in international work performed by an enterprise with an interest in East Asia or Latin America.
Education:
Undergraduate studies at Columbia University in New York City with a concentration in Spanish language and History. Coursework in Economics, Politics and Philosophy. Graduate work at the University of Chicago on international history with an emphasis on the movement of people and ideas into Latin America. Academic interest is on the nation-state, its usability as a concept in the 21st century, and how international and supernational organizations are able to better govern our needs while allowing for a greater decentralization of power to people.
