Professional Experience: |
A highly differentiated experience base of over 18 years of innovative financing in the investment banking world, development banking, a global health sector and childrens PPP organisation and infrastructure development.
Having worked as part of senior management in a multi-cultural, global environment for over 12 years, I have mature management skills, and am used to managing large groups of highly specialised individuals. Additionally, I have interacted with bi-partisan senior government officials in Europe, Asia, and Africa, read an MBA from Cambridge in the Environmental & Energy, and led multi-stakeholder teams managing complex negotiations, using my legal skills from the private sector, building support for various needs. Above all, I am deeply committed to using my combined private and public sector skills to further development which has a global, and sustainable impact. As the Deputy Director for fundraising and the Head of Asia-Pacific at Gavi, much of my time was devoted to the predictability, increase and efficient use of funds from a diverse funding base that included DACs sovereign and new donors. At GAVI, I have developed strategies that could be used to identify new donors, companies, prepare pitches and proposals for the same and indeed bring them as new corporate partnerships, including technical expertise and cash donations. Indeed, having dealt with CEOs and senior management for much of my working life, I have in-depth experience of presenting the same to them, blending and aligning corporate strategy with the aims of an organisation such as GAVI. I have targeted specific “cash rich” industries such as Banking and Islamic Financiers with in-principle interest being expressed. With a background in law, negotiation and creating the necessary documentation such as MoUs and agreements, I am able to manage such a project in its entirety. I list bellow some of my other initiatives:
Diversifying Donor base: Described by Board Chair Dagfinn Høybråten as a historic event for GAVI, I was responsible for bringing on India as the 1st implementing country donor.
Introducing Islamic financing as a new source of funding: Linking implementing countries and interested potential donors, I am collaborating with Islamic academics and foundations, Islamic Financing capital market experts, sovereign funds and private sector confederations, leading initiatives aimed at advocacy & tapping the Middle Eastern and Asian zakat and cleansing monies from FIs, Hedge Funds and Corporates via Malaysia.
Creating India 3 pronged CSR Strategy: Aimed at the 2% mandatory CSR (USD 3bn) funds and technical collaborations, the creation of a PPP CSR Fund, a corporate collective product and donor industry-confederations. It is my belief that involving India will be important to unlocking links with other emerging and traditional donors.
Enabling technical partnerships: Building on my work with corporates in the Netherlands & UK, such as KLM
