Professional Experience: |
I am currently Director of Policy with EuroCommerce, Europe’s umbrella lobby representing wholesale and retail, leading EuroCommerce’s work on wholesale and international trade, and Vice-Chair of the European Services Forum.
I was a member of the Commission’s team of advisers at all WTO Ministerials since 2003. He supervises all relevant trade issues: antidumping, preferences, rules of origin, bilaterals, etc.
I was centrally involved in solving a major trade issue with China in 2005 when 80 million items were blocked at customs following sudden re-introduction of import quota. I played a leading role in organising business support for the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement and in extending the predictability of the EU’s GSP from initially one day to more than one year.
I coordinated EuroCommerce’s input to the EU’s “Trade for All” strategy (“free, fluid, simple, predictable”) and actively promotes new issues like international e-commerce and improved rules for services incorporated in goods (“mode 5”).
I started my career as a trade adviser with a regional trade association in Hamburg. I work in English, French, German and Italian.

Education: |
Following my law and Italian language studies in Passau (D) and my second state exam in Düsseldorf (D) I became a German attorney-at-law (Rechtsanwalt; currently inactive given my professional obligations as a Director of Policy in Brussels).
