Professional Experience:
In the last years I served the International Labour Organization (ILO) to implement projects and activities to tackle and eliminate the root causes of child labour in global supply chains in Africa. Through the ACCEL Africa project (Accelerating Action for the Elimination of Child Labour in Supply Chains in Africa), I have closely worked with tripartite constituents – Government, employers’ and workers’ organizations – and private sector actors to mainstream child labour in their policies and programmes by developing innovative solutions and gathering best practices for their replicability. I have been acting as focal point on labour and human rights due diligence and responsible supply chains in the six target countries under the project (Ivory Coast, Mali, Nigeria, Egypt, Uganda, and Malawi) by providing strategic guidance on business and human rights centred policies at both national and international levels through the promotion of child labour compliance and the adaptation and implementation of key international instruments such as the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, the ILO MNE Declaration, the ILO-IOE Child Labour Guidance Tool for Businesses, and the OECD Guidelines among the others. Along with that, I have contributed to identify and support training needs of project partners by organizing and conducting workshops on human and labour rights due diligence and responsible business conduct with a specific focus on agricultural and mineral supply chains. In addition, I have been promoting and building multi-stakeholder partnerships through the development and implementation of public-private partnerships (PPP) as well as the organization of business forums on global supply chains and child labour as a central fundamental principle and right at work by engaging with tripartite constituents, businesses, civil society organizations, other development and UN agencies, and the African Union Commission (AUC) to accelerate progress to eliminate child labour. Similarly, my field experience in Ethiopia and Mozambique with the World Food Programme (WFP), the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, and the Tufts University in collaboration with Save the Children International, gave me the opportunity to acquire significant skills in project management and monitoring and evaluation by carrying out M&E activities and project management of different technical cooperation projects on rural development and supply chains, preparing project proposals, undertaking field missions and reporting, monitoring projects’ progress, plan and budgets, supporting project evaluation processes, analysing data and key performance indicators, and collecting best practices. This also gave me the opportunity to interact with different stakeholders – from field level representatives to national partners such as governments and other international institutions – providing me with the adequate expertise and ability to adapt style and content of communication to a diverse audience, at the same time developing strong negotiating and interpersonal skills beyond a high multicultural and political sensitiveness.
