Intern Africa Progress Panel Location: Switzerland Last Date: January 29, 2010
The Africa Progress Panel Secretariat is now looking for a resourceful individual to support its research work/ requirements. The candidate will be required to perform a wide range of functions and responsibilities; which will involve working with the Director, the Research Coordinator and other APP colleagues to conduct background research on topics relating to Africa’s development; contribute to the 2010 APP Annual Report, drafting of briefs/ mini reports, as well as, possibly provide logistical support in the organization of workshops and meetings.
Core tasks Duties include, but not limited to the following: -Conduct background research and assist with the collection of relevant information as required; -Provide logistical support with the organization of events; -Support the production and dissemination of APP’s products and activities such as APP briefs, APP fortnightly Bulletins as well as the 2010 APP Annual Report; -Other tasks as required by Director and other APP colleagues.
Skills and competencies required - Excellent written and spoken English, the same in French a major advantage; - Excellent research and organizational skills; - Sound knowledge of economic and social development issues (gender issues and policy coherence an advantage); - Knowledge of and experience in Africa; - Strong interpersonal skills; - Ability to take initiative and work to deadlines.

About the Africa Progress Panel (APP) The APP consists of a group of distinguished individuals whose objective is to ensure that Africa’s development needs are prioritized in global agreements and arrangements, to focus world leaders’ attention on delivering on their commitments to Africa, particularly in the areas of governance and economic support, and to make timely interventions on specific issues with a view to generating positive action.
The Panel is supported by a secretariat that has recently been established in Geneva that is responsible for: - Preparation of an annual report on the state of Africa and of commitments to Africa; - Publishes a fortnightly Bulletin with news and comment on Africa; - Supports the APP Chair and Panel members to make both private and public interventions and media appearances to draw attention to specific issues; - Publishes a series of succinct Africa Progress Briefs with recommendations for action targeted at the highest level policy makers on specific aspects of Africa’s political, economic and social progress.
