Gavi Alliance Geneva 7 March 2010 DURATION: 7,5 months temporary opportunity REPORTS TO: Head, Media & Communications PURPOSE OF SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT: Temporary replacement of maternity leave KEY RESULTS EXPECTED/ OBJECTIVES: Increased visibility for GAVI Alliance in key donor markets with strong focus on France. Output of media products – releases, interviews, events. SPECIFIC DELIVERABLES AND DATES: Manage media story development and pitching, acting as spokesperson for French media. Identify media outreach activities within the organization. Cultivate and inform journalists about GAVI’s work, with strong focus on French media. Write and produce media materials including press releases, op-eds, Q & A’s, and stories for publication on the GAVI websites. Support the Resource Mobilization Strategy (as developed by the Programme Funding Team) by producing and disseminating advocacy materials to identified audiences, with focus on France. Inform GAVI of existing and potential media opportunities related to events/meetings in France and other donor countries as requested. Collaborate with PR consultants and other M&C team members and manage media outreach for chosen stories. Focal point for media training. Perform other tasks as required, including: Identify, brief and manage media and speaking opportunities for potential Francophone spokespersons or other GAVI advocates. Increase the development of communication tools in French in line with the “More French at GAVI” plan – i.e. corporate materials, media monitoring, media training, etc QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Academic: University degree in communication, journalism, Public Relations; or equivalent professional working experience in the communication area, combined with a degree. Experience: Three to five years experience in media relations and communications. Work experience in one of the following areas is an asset: donor relations, fund raising, public relations. Skills/Competencies: Familiarity with development and global public health issues and media is an asset. Strong analytical, writing and verbal communications skills. Natural or learned expertise as a spokesperson. Solid understanding of international development issues. Overall knowledge of print, broadcast and interactive digital media. Demonstrated ability to work in multi-cultural international environment, and establish harmonious and effective internal and external working relationships. Experience in dealing with developing countries is an asset. Languages: French mother tongue. Fluency in English. The GAVI Alliance is an international institution in Switzerland pursuant to a Headquarters Agreement with the Swiss Government. The person selected for this position will be appointed on a contract under GAVI’s internal rules/regulations. We offer a competitive remuneration package and salaries are paid in Swiss Francs. The GAVI Alliance is exempt from Swiss taxes but applies an internal tax on all staff salaries. Employees living in France are in addition subject to applicable French taxes. |
