The Senior Associate reports directly to the Director Nutrition Programs (NP) and supports nutrition program activities, including overseeing nutrition programs and contributing to the overall NP strategy as well as donor relationship management.
TASKS
Major responsibilities include the following:
•Supports the NP Director in coordinating program activities including planning, budgeting, and grant management.
•Helps to oversee use and allocation of NP human resources across project teams.
•Supports NP Director in monitoring progress of IPS projects.
•Supports donor reporting and manages key donor programmatic relationships
•Collaborates with GAIN staff, contractors and grantees to plan and implement Nutrition Programs activities.
•Reviews and oversees the collection of monitoring and evaluation frameworks, indicators and tools to measure the performance of GAIN’s nutrition programs and trains partners on the use of GAIN project monitoring tools.
•Travels to deliver assistance to grantees related to GAIN’s nutrition programs.
•Conducts reviews of literature and drafts policy as well as technical position papers.
•Reviews business plans and evaluates Nutrition Programs proposals for funding and provides guidance and technical support to potential grantees and GAIN partners.
•Aids in management of GAIN’s independent project review processes.
•Prepares high-quality reports and other materials to communicate the performance of GAIN’s programs to GAIN’s senior management, Board of Directors, donors and the general public.
•Plans and executes technical workshops including preparation of background materials and presentations.
•Represents GAIN at technical meetings and conferences, upon request.
•Aids in annual work and budget planning processes.
•Develops fundraising proposals.
•Maintains a database of consultants to meet technical or programmatic needs and assist in the development of the Terms of Reference for external consultants.
•Assists the Budget Holder in preparing quarterly forecasts and Program Working Budget for the programs under his/her supervision
•Provides input to the Manager, Nutrition Programs on annual work-plans submitted by country and regional level staff.
•Assists any GAIN secretariat staff in drafting and finalizing MOUs with global alliance partners for the programs under his/her supervision
•Prepares country or regional summary documents, reports, Board presentations, etc. as needed.
•Performs other related assignments as required by the Director Nutrition Programs and other GAIN Secretariat staff.

•Other GAIN staff (Managers and staff of the Nutrition Program, Performance Measurement and Research, Advocacy and Communication, External Relations, Partnerships) : to coordinate regional and national activities
•Local executing agencies, industries and government to identify specific ways to improve implementation.
•GAIN finance and administrative staff: to help plan budgets, execute contracts, and organize meeting logistics.
•GAIN’s external partners, contractors and grantees to plan and implement high-quality performance metric data collection activities
COMPETENCIES REQUIRED FOR THIS JOB:
•Analytical mind and commitment to quality and accuracy with close attention to detail.
•Track record of successful project management in developing country contexts, preferably with experience in design, implementation and monitoring and evaluation of public health programs.
•Experience in working with financial and project management systems, excellent auditing and accounting knowledge and skills.
•Experience working with public and private sector partners in developing country contexts.
•Proven ability to work in an environment requiring collaboration with governments, and national and international organizations.
•Effective negotiation and communication skills, both written and verbal.
•Flexible, goal-oriented and willingness to travel in challenging environments.
•Computer literacy with excellent Excel, MS word, Outlook, and Power Point skills
•Ability to use work collaboratively, show initiative, prioritize, multi-task, and work well under pressure to meet deadlines.
Education: Postgraduate Qualification in project management with Masters in public health, business administration, economics or suitable equivalent.
Experience: Minimum 7 years of experience in project management with a focus on technical and program management skills. A minimum of 3 years of overseas field experience in project management in developing countries is a strong asset. Direct work experience related to public health and infant and young child nutrition, a strong plus.
Languages: Excellent communication skills (oral and written): fluency in English is essential, fluency in French, a strong asset. Knowledge of additional languages is also advantageous.
