Internship - European Regional Programme
INTERNATIONAL COMMISSION OF JURISTS Commission internationale de juristes - Comisión Internacional de Juristas " dedicated since 1952 to the primacy, coherence and implementation of international law and principles that advance human rights " July 2010 Internship - European Regional Programme The International Commission of Jurists is a non-governmental organisation dedicated to the legal promotion and protection of human rights and the rule of law. Description: The ICJ is currently seeking an intern for 6 months to work in its research and drafting for ICJ interventions at national level in European countries, and for submissions to Council of Europe, European Union and United Nations institutions. The intern’s duties will include: European Programme, to assist in• and fair trial; counter-terrorism and migration; Legal research on European human rights, including on issues of judicial independence• drafting of briefing notes on European human rights issues;• Monitoring of news and developments related to human rights in Europe;• Assistance in organisation of ICJ workshops and events;• The post is Geneva based and the person selected should September. Requirements: Assistance with ongoing administrative tasks of the Programme (not more than 20%)be available to begin to work inThe successful candidates will have: • A degree in law or a related field. A postgraduate degree is desirable;• and the European Convention on Human Rights; knowledge of EU law an advantage; Excellent knowledge of public international law, including international human rights law• would be an asset; Fluency in English; knowledge of French, Spanish, Russian or other European languages• Excellent drafting skills;• High motivation and demonstrated interest in human rights.Conditions: Unfortunately the ICJ is not in a position to offer any financial remuneration to interns. All interns are responsible for all expenses and costs incurred in undertaking an internship with the ICJ. On a discretionary basis the ICJ may offer a lunch allowance. The starting date of the internship is dependent on the delivery of a work permit from the Swiss authorities.
