Manager of Communication and Outreach


VACANCY NOTICE
Manager of Communication and Outreach
The International Service for Human Rights (ISHR) is currently recruiting a Manager of Communication and Outreach for its main office in Geneva. The Manager of Communication and Outreach is responsible for the strategic direction, planning and budgeting of ISHR’s Communication and Outreach activities. The Communication and Outreach Manager also supervises the IT & Web Officer and one or two Communications interns.
The specific responsibilities of the position will include:
- Position ISHR internally and externally to maintain and develop a strong image and clear communication around ISHR and its information products, country and regional engagements, trainings, and advocacy through outreach initiatives and distribution of key information and publications
- Coordinate the full print production of ISHR publications. This includes defining publications schedules, editing articles/texts, coordinating contributions from different authors, supervising all external suppliers, providing input on design and format, and ensuring a high quality print product in a cost-effective manner
- Supervise the maintenance of ISHR’s website, the regular updating of content and news stories, and the overall coherence and information structure of the website; contribute new ideas to continuously improve the usability and relevance of the website for target audiences
- Optimise ISHR’s presence on social media sites
- Ensure the output of high quality online and print publications and their timely distribution to human rights defenders, academia, libraries, human rights experts, UN/OHCHR staff and government representatives
- Develop and maintain an institution-wide customer relations management system, in consultation with other Programmes in Geneva and New York
- Carry out evaluations and needs assessments with diverse target audiences, including human rights defenders
- Ensure the monitoring of data regarding the traffic to/through and use of the ISHR website and social media sites and put forward recommendations for amendments
- Manage and liaise with all external suppliers (graphic designers, web designers, photographers, printers, multimedia consultants, translators, editors, etc). Manage related budget forecasts and expenditure
Qualifications and experience
Essential
- University degree or diploma in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Sociology, Political Science or related fields
- 5 to 8 years of professional experience with proven excellence in coordinating print production of publications and managing websites
- Fluency in oral and written English and excellent drafting and editing skills in English
- Very good level of French
- Proven management and organisational skills
- Ability to multi-task and work under pressure to meet tight deadlines
- Demonstrated interest in and knowledge of human rights
- Strong command of Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and at least one Web publishing/content management system software (Joomla ideally) and one design software (InDesign, Xpress, Illustrator, Photoshop)
- Excellent communication and people skills
Desirable
- Experience and established contacts with journalists and news agencies
- Good knowledge of IT and Internet requirements in order to manage IT & Web Officer
- Motivation to work in a multi-cultural environment and have a genuine interest/desire to become familiar with the work of a human rights NGO
Salary
The monthly salary is within the range of CHF 6’300 to 7’000 depending on qualifications and experience.
