Communicate with Global Policymakers—Join ICTSD’s Periodicals Team
Policy makers, leading NGOs and businesses depend on ICTSD periodicals to stay abreast of critical developments in the field and to enable them to interact and advocate on the complex issues that characterize the intersecting concerns of trade policy and sustainable development, and trade related issues that are critical to other multilateral agreements, such as the emerging governance around climate change. ICTSD periodicals are currently produced globally in six different languages and are distinguished for their technical accuracy and nonpartisan news and analysis. Frequency of production ranges from weekly to quarterly with electronic and paper delivery. Current subscription base is approximately 65,000.
Writers, editors and interns working for the team communicate with top level policymakers and influencers around the world. They compile and report on other news, commission byline articles, and write and research original articles. The team works in Geneva and in several locations in other countries including Costa Rica, Mexico, Canada, Brazil, Russia and China. ICTSD’s editorial team is highly collaborative and focuses extensively on information and intelligence sharing across its publications. Weekly virtual editorial meetings tie the teams together on both substantive and strategic issues.
Successful candidates will either have a strong academic background in trade policy or sustainable development and a high level ability to write in a journalistic style on deadline; or a journalism background with some background in trade policy and sustainable development. Selected candidates will demonstrate::
·         Proven ability to communicate effectively in written and electronic formats, preferably with an aptitude or formal background for journalistic writing/reporting.
·         Background in international trade policy and sustainable development, with substantial experience in and understanding of the relevant issues at the intersection between the two.
·         Capacity to work as part of a multicultural team and with submitted articles of varying quality.
·         Ability to write and edit news and analytic pieces of 300-1500 words.
·         Ability to edit and shape pieces and to ensure that writers address critical issues.
·         Entrepreneurial and performance oriented: You want to know your audience and how to serve it and you are willing to reach out and use the tools at hand to do so.
·         Management capacity. You need to know or be able to learn quickly how to manage an editorial process and work collaboratively with others.
·         Ability to work on strict deadlines (essential).
·         Native ability in one or more of the languages we work in (currently, English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Chinese and Arabic). We are particularly interested in those who are fully bi- or multilingual.
·         A strong personal commitment to sustainable development.
Remunerated Positions
ICTSD occasionally needs to fill remunerated positions on its editorial team.
Internships
Interns form an integral part of ICTSD’s periodical team. They perform many of the same tasks as editors and they participate in editorial meetings. A large percentage of our current editorial team are former interns. Many of our interns go on to significant positions in other areas of international policy, policy analysis, and journalism.

We are currently reviewing candidates for all of the periodical publications. Recent journalism school graduates are encouraged to apply, particularly if they have substantive strengths on trade and sustainable development issues.
To apply for a position please send a resume and statement of interest tojobsatictsd.ch.
