Professional Experience:

? Led organization, regionalization, culture change and development initiatives in UK public service agency and in international NGO, including private sector partnerships and projectization of work.
? Facilitated private sector engagement nationally and internationally across sectors, organizations. Ministries, civil society/local communities (inc. fishing communities) to implement environmental/social strategies associated with oil industry in Mauritania.
? Represented Oxfam International at high level summits/dialogues around the on-going food crisis.
? Promoted collaborative natural resource management as a key element in peacebuilding.
? Reviewed guidelines in use, globally, by INGO (IUCN) engaging with the private sector.
? Produced for INGOs, private sector and Government, briefings/position statements/guidelines; e.g. on establishing high seas marine protected areas; on offshore oil and gas; shipping issues; GMOs etc.
? Developed external guidance on sustainable development tools, viz: environmental impact assessment; strategic and development planning; and, economics and environmental valuation.
? Initiated UK biodiversity agency’s Sustainable Development strategy – ‘significantly influenced UK Government’.
? Established UK biodiversity agency as a significant contributor to the debate on environmental economics through cutting-edge research and by initiating and running an economists’ network with NGOs, Government Departments and Public Bodies; presented evidence to Parliamentary Committees, e.g. on the importance of green economics.
? Initiated work with local, regional and national planning departments to put sustainability into practice; developed and implemented conservation strategies leading to policy changes in Government’s spatial planning framework, government policy and legislation; influenced through environmental impact assessment, cost benefit critiques etc.
? Changed Agriculture and Water Sector’s land drainage practices to meet environmental objectives.
? Changed forestry policy and practice in favour of biodiversity conservation.
? Achieved effective Protected Areas through negotiations, agreed management plans, implementation and monitoring including wetlands, grasslands, freshwater, forest and coastal habitats and implemented landscape-level approaches, biodiversity corridors and ecosystem services approaches etc.
